Abstract

MB-S69X-50 is the best in class solid preparation using elastomeric binder that provides better compatibility with rubber compounds. It has been used to replace liquid silane for loading level optimization and better handling capability. Furthermore, it is stable against humidity with its extended shelf life.

Applications and Performance

The active ingredient of MB-S69X-50, SCA-S69X (equiv. to Si 69) is a bifunctional, sulfur-containing organosilane used in the rubber industry in combination with white fillers that carry silanol groups. It reacts with fillers containing silanol groups during mixing and with the polymer during the vulcanization process under formation of covalent chemical bonds. This imparts better tensile strength, higher modules, reduced compression set, increased abrasion resistance and optimized dynamic properties. SCA-S69X (equiv. to Si 69) is used in many applications where white fillers containing silanol groups are involved and optimum technical properties are required. The dramatic reducing of Mooney viscosity and the flow property improvement of rubber can be observed after adding SCA-S69X (equiv. to Si 69) during the milling processing. So it becomes one of idea processing additives.

With the ever-increasing BR rubber price, there is a trend among the outsole formulators to replace BR (Butyl Rubber) with silica-silane reinforcement system. This cost effective solution reduces loading level of BR with higher dosage of silica, silane, and SBR. In doing so, the vulcanizates can have the desired abrasion resistance as well as better physical properties (tensile strength, ant-skid) and improved processing capability over BR.

In tire formulation that forbids the use of amine-type antiozonants, compounders use EPDM to have the needed dynamic anti-ozone property. The rather expensive EPDM price unavoidable increase the manufacturing cost. With the application of MB-S69X-50 in the silica-silane reinforcement system, some tire companies have observed that the EPDM dosage can be reduced (over 50%) and so with the manufacturing cost to achieve the comparable dynamic anti-ozone property.

Traditionally, PDPB (pre-dispersed polymer bound) silane masterbatch unfortunately suffers limited shelf life. The problems from losing activities during storage need to be tackled before compounders could really benefit from PDPB silane masterbatch. Our MB-S69X-50 overcame this obstacle with an extended shelf life and could sustain a warm and humid environment for more than one year, which is 2-3 times longer than existing comparable products on the market. The improved stability against humidity offers conveniences on handling, transportation, and long-term storage.

Packing

The regular packing of this product is 25kg/bag in a plastic bag; or 1kg packing in a low melting EVA/PE foil (75~85℃) bag, and 25 bags in a carton box.

Storage and Shelf Life

This product should be stored in dry, cool, ventilated room; keep away from water, moisture, high temperature and fire.

When stored at or below 25°C (77°F) in the original unopened containers, this product has a usable life of 18 months from the date of production.

If this product is kept beyond the shelf life recommend on the product label, it is not necessarily unusable, but a quality control should be performed on the properties relevant to the application.
